Class Changes for February 2015
Effective February 1, 2015. CrossFit On-Ramp will be changing to CrossFit On-Ramp/Intro. This means all beginners are welcome to come to this class! No more manditory 10 sessions. You get to hang out in the beginner class until the coach “passes” you onto the regular classes. If you want to progress quickly, please attend two weeks in a row and have your skill set assessed by the coach.

If you do NOT have a contract membership, regular pricing is available but it’s still a great deal at $15/session. Monthly payment plan is available for both members and non-contract members.

We had a tie for 2nd and 3rd place, too, which really makes us proud that so many of you worked really hard…and it paid off. Lise Cote and Carly Clark tied for third and will four 30 min weigh-in nutrition sessions and a VO2Max shirt.

Crossfit Kids Summer Camp
Just a reminder that regularly scheduled Crossfit Kids class only runs during the school year. So before your kids announce, “I’m bored”, register them for CROSSFIT KIDS CAMP.
This summer, camps are available for 2 – one week sessions with two age groups: Junior and Senior. Parents…we’ve conveniently scheduled the Junior Camp with 9 am Bootcamp and 10 am CrossFit.
Registration is now open! If neither of these weeks work for your family’s schedule, please feel free to leave your name at the desk. If there is enough interest, we can add additional weeks of camp.

2014 Q99 Biggest Losers Team Edition…
Q99’S BIGGEST LOSER TEAM EDITION – Our 4th year of Biggest Losers has just begun. Congratulations to all who toughed out tryouts last weekend and to the final 12 contestants who made Ron’s team and Tarik’s team. Over the next 3 months, the two lucky teams will train 3 times/week and have weigh-ins weekly. The contest wraps up May 24, 2014. Good luck, everyone. The Zulu Challenge, an obstacle course race being held at Nitehawk on May 10, 2014, is on everyone’s mind. VO2Max is so fortunate to have 2 teams: VO2Max Attacks and VO2Maximum, with training beginning the week of January 20, 2014.
VO2Max Attacks will be lead by Jenn MacKinnon and targeted towards the more ‘hard-core’ individual, endurance runner or experienced obstacle course racer. Training days will be Tuesdays at 5:30 pm and Saturdays at 9:00 am. For those participating in Tough Mudder, training will continue for the rest of May and June.
VO2Maximum will be lead by Jen Roach and targeted towards the first time racer or those who need some gentle (or maybe not so gentle) encouragement to build up their strength and endurance. Training will be Fridays at 7:00 or 7:30 pm, with one other weekday evening (to be determined). Just because it’s a ‘beginner’ group, doesn’t mean you get slack off. Be prepared to work hard!
Training packages will be released in the New Year but for now, go to the Zulu website and register. Both teams have a 9:00 am start time on race day.
Ten Week Challenge is over…and Tammy Gould is going to Vegas with her $1,500 winnings! Congratulations, Tammy!
Congratulations to our second and third place winners, the husband and wife team of Andre and Monique Maisonneuve. They win $200 and $100 VO2Max dollars, respectively.
Tammy won with 66.5 points followed by Andre with 63 and Monique 61.5.
Twenty challengers weighed out last weekend and collectively lost 154 pounds, 57% of body fat, 130.5 inches off of four measurement sites. Who says challenges don’t work? You guys did awesome!

CrossFit Teens – NEW Format Fall 2013 starting September 16
Hey VO2Max Teens,
Your CrossFit Teen training will be changing September 16. New this fall, you can now register for your teen classes.
3 months of training. 4 days a week. Teen Throwdown in December.
You can now register for 3 monthly sessions of CrossFit Teens. The first monthly session begins on September 16 with training days on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4 pm. Cost is $120.00 + gst per month, with pre-authorized payments set up for September 16, October 16 and November 16. At the end of 12 weeks of training, you will have your own Teen Throwdown. You can sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 monthly sessions.
Not able to come to CrossFit Teens all the time? Not a problem. A $10.00 drop-in is still available all fall. Perfect for the first 2 weeks in September, for those teens with other commitments or new teens coming to class.

Wednesday, December 19 Special Anniversary WOD
In honour of PJ’s 1 year anniversary, VO2Max will be doing a Special Anniversary WOD for him on December 19th. Most of you know PJ and are familiar with his journey. From 420 lbs in September 2011 to his first workout at VO2Max in December 2011 to his continued dedication of weight loss and getting healthy, PJ will be weighing in on December 18th and this weight loss number will be used in the Anniversary WOD. Plus, PJ (along with VO2Max) will be donating $5 per pound loss to a local children’s charity.
PJ, with his positive attitude and generous nature, has motivated us many times during this past year. On December 19th, join PJ at the 9:30 am class and if you can’t come at 9:30, know that the WOD this day is honour of his journey and his making a difference in our VO2Max family.

RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS DAY – NOVEMBER 9, 2012

Announcing the Winners of the 30 Day Paleo Challenge
Drum roll, please! Congratulations to our top three 30 Day Paleo Challenge winners. In 3rd place, Janet Ramsey who lost 16 lbs and 12.5 inches, winning three personal training session. In 2nd place, Wes Wilson who lost 17 lbs and 5 inches, winning five personal training sessions. And finally, in FIRST place, Braden Dalgleish who lost 23 lbs and 13 inches. Braden wins ten personal training sessions. These three participants had amazing food logs and workouts throughout the past month. And a BIG congratulations to ALL of you who perservered! Of the 52 individuals who weighed out, you collectively lost 349 lbs and 318 inches…in only 30 days! Can you imagine the results if we did a 90 day challenge? Well done, everyone!!!

At V02Max, we support a healthy lifestyle which includes positive and enriching relationships. We are choosing to support our local White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) in an effort to work to end violence against women in all its forms.
The WRC is an international campaign that works to engage men and boys to end violence against women. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Wearing a white ribbon is a way of saying, “Our future has no violence against women.”
What can I do?
BELIEVE This issue is real. Believe victims’ experiences. Your support will make a difference. No one asks for or deserves to be the victim or physical, emotional, or sexual violence.
TRUST YOUR GUT Don’t ignore harassment or an assault on the street or anywhere: assess the risk, then intervene and confront or defuse the situation. If you need to, ask for help. Call 911.
OFFER SUPPORT Ask if you can help people who have experienced violence and connect them to support services (In Grande Prairie: Odyssey House, Victim’s Services, PACE).
IT STARTS WITH YOU Lead by example. Question your own attitudes and behaviours and how they may disrespect or harm women. Sexist language and street harassment all contribute to a culture of violence.
IT STAYS WITH HIM Be a role model. Talk to your family, friends and co-workers about the roles they can play in ending violence against women. Challenge men and young men in your life to make a difference!

Winter Challenge Throwdown at VO2Max
TAH…DAH…..Announcing our 2nd Annual Winter Challenge Throwdown, November 23-25, 2012. And guess what? $1,000 prize for top RX male and RX female! Holy crap!!!
Registration opens on Tuesday, October 9.
Total number of registered athletes will be 50 men and 50 women, which will include a maximum of 24 scaled men and 24 scaled women. If we do not reach 26 RX athletes, then the remaining spots will be offered to ‘wait-listed’ scaled athletes.
Basically, to avoid being wait-listed, register early.
Workouts will NOT be pre-released. So, how do you know if you should register RX or scaled? If you do most of your regular WODs RX, then register RX.
If you have a favourite CrossFit box outside of Grande Prairie, please let them know. Don’t let anyone miss out on a this kick-ass weekend!

Okay, ladies here you go… Starting Friday July 20th at 12:00 pm, tickets for the September 15th Firefighter Calendar Launch Event at the Lions Den will be available at VO2 Max or from the calendar models (aka the hot firemen who are actually in the calendar). The Schedule for the night is as follows: 6:00 pm: Cocktails 7:00 pm: A Served 3 course Dinner, including a glass of house wine. 8:00 – 9:30 pm: Calendar Launch Event featuring the 2013 Fireifghter Calendar models. 9:30 pm: Firefighter meet and greet. NEW TRAINER AT VO2MAX
This week you might notice a new face around VO2Max. We are excited to welcome MICHAEL SHEEHAN to our team of amazing trainers. Michael attended GPRC and graduated in the Fitness Leadership Program. He is a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer and has been training clients for the past couple years. Michael will be specializing in individual client training and sport specific training for athletes. Give us a call to book your appointment while Michael still has early morning and evening availability!
VO2Max is excited to welcome our NEW Registered Massage Therapist, Vicky Iadarola, of Comprehensive Therapeutic Massage.
Vicky grew up in the Grande Prairie area and completed the three year program at the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, graduating in January 2012. She specializes in Myofacial Release, Joint Mobilization, Muscle Energy Techniques (MET), Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), Craniosacral Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue and Lymph Drainage. In less technical terms, Vicky works to facilitate the healing process, aid in rehabilitation from old injuries, as well as preventing further injury from occurring. She believes that everyone can experience the benefits of massage therapy no matter what stage of life they are in. One of her goals is to help incorporate massage into her clients’ lives as part of their healthy lifestyle.
Vicky will be massaging Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and Saturday appointments available.

Did you donate to Relay for Life (Team Fighting Down Under) and get a pair of Merino wool socks? Then this thank you is for you! The team just let us know that VO2Max’s members donated $835 towards cancer by purchasing a pair of their awesome socks! The team participated in Grande Prairie’s Relay for Life on June 8th and head off to Whitecourt this weekend for their second relay. In tota,l their team has raised approximately $23,000 toward the fight against cancer. Thank you for being a part of it!

Congratulations to Tri-Fitness Grande Prairie
Our Tri-Fit team of 10 women and 1 man competed at St. Pete’s Beach, Florida over May Long Weekend. This is the 3rd competition for VO2Max’s team. Official results have not been posted yet, but we’ve heard of some great performances from our team. Watch their website: trifitnesschallenge.com for the official update and pictures.
